Alastair Reynolds – Terminal World

As with the previous Eoin Colfer book this one has a theme of an author’s first book after a long and successful series. Alastair Reynolds is one of the best Sci-Fi space opera writers going as the eleven previous large hardbacks on my book shelf tell me. So his first book not set in ‘revelation space’ was always going to be interesting.

How did it do – work in progress I would say. A good story but in some ways just a sketch of new people, new places and a very strange world. In some part that is a result of the story, the characters are in a world whose history they have lost, amongst technologies they don’t comprehend. However by the end of the book some resolution for me, the reader, would have been nice. Maybe there will be more in a subsequent book than the clues given so far.
